How To Make 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats

Step 1: Prepare the Base Treat

  • Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat.

Step 2: Mix in the Mini Marshmallows

  • Add the mini marshmallows, stirring continuously until fully melted and smooth. Do not let the mixture burn.
  • Immediately mix the Rice Krispies cereal until well coated. Press the mixture firmly into a 9×13-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper or lightly greased.
  • Flatten it evenly across the pan. Let the Rice Krispie treat cool and set in the refrigerator for at least one hour.

Step 3: Cut the Treats

  • Once set, lift the whole treat out of the pan using the edges of the parchment paper. Place it on a cutting board and cut it into nine or 12 squares or rectangles to your preferred size. The size and number of treats are up to you, depending on how many people you share these with and the occasion. If you’re preparing these for a classroom party, you may size these smaller to allow more treats at a smaller portion suitable for younger bellies.

Step 4: Melt the Candies

  • Melt the red, white, and blue meltable candies separately according to the package instructions. Use bowls deep enough for easy dipping.

Step 5: Decorate the Treats

  • Use a spoon or a piping bag to drizzle the melted candy of your choice over each Rice Krispie square, decorating it as you like. If you want to save time and don’t have pipping bags, use a butter knife or spoon to coat the treats.

Step 6: Add Sprinkles

  • Place the dipped treats onto a sheet of parchment paper. While the candy coating is still wet, top off with your chosen sprinkles for a decorative touch. For these, I used red, white, and blue. For Halloween, for instance, you could drizzle orange and black melted candy and finish with purple or white sprinkles on top.

Step 7: Cool the Rice Krispie Treats

  • Allow the treats to set completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator for a faster setting.
