I wanted to find a cupcake that all three of us could enjoy. Matthew is a die-hard chocolate-on-chocolate guy, and there is just too much chocolate for me in one bite! So when I started thinking about ideas for a yummy, decadent Valentine’s Day cupcake, I knew white/pink vanilla frosting was the answer!
Valentine’s Day Cupcake Recipe Decorating Ideas
No matter how you celebrate February 14 – with your little school-age cupids, BFFs, or a romantic partner – you’ll want to share these delicious cupcakes with everyone (or not!).
I initially worried that making the “love” letters would be challenging, but it turned out much easier than I thought! And now I’m thinking of other words I can make for cupcake toppers this coming year. For obvious reasons, short words will work best.
Chocolate Love Word Directions
To make the “love” word topper, I used 1 cup of Ghirardelli chocolate, but if you have another brand of chocolate you prefer, that works too.
You can create your message freehand or print out the cursive words. You’ll need a piping bag, icing with a coupler (tip numbers 2, 3, or 4 are great), and wax paper.

Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds or until smooth, and add it to your piping bag. Write the word “love” on the parchment paper 24-26 times and allow it to harden for a few hours. You could also toss a few sprinkles on (which I’ll do next time).
Once the chocolate words are dry, press them into the frosting on top of the cupcakes, and you’re done! Not only are these chocolate Valentine’s Day cupcakes delicious, but they are super cute, too!

How to Make White and Pink Vanilla Frosting
Making this white and pink vanilla frosting is super easy—you need six ingredients, a piping bag, and about five minutes to whip up this yummy treat!
You will need unsalted sweet cream butter, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, pink gel food coloring, and Valentine’s Day sprinkles.
Beat the butter on medium for one minute in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment or in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer.
Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, and continue to mix until combined. Add the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract and mix on medium to high speed until the mixture is combined.
Split the frosting in half, add a few drops of pink coloring to one bowl, and mix until combined well. Scoop pink frosting into one side of the piping bag, and scoop white frosting into the other side of the piping bag so that when you frost the cupcakes, the frosting comes out in a spiral mixture.
Frost cooled cupcakes and gently place some Valentine’s Day sprinkles on top. Carefully peel the “love” word off the wax paper and place it in the middle of the frosting. Enjoy!
